Champlain Towers South, the 12-story building in Florida that partially collapsed Thursday, had been a beachside residence for 40 years.

The building at 8777 Collins Avenue, just north of Miami beach, was built in 1981. Surfside Commissioner Eliana Salzhauer said the building was undergoing inspection for its recertification. At least one person is dead and 10 injured, officials said, with nearly 100 people unaccounted for as of Thursday afternoon.
