WEARY Brits are splashing out nearly £1million a day on energy drinks.

Spending on caffeine-laden beverages rose 13 per cent to £353million in the 12 months to March.

Market leader Red Bull saw its sales soar 18 per cent, while rival Monster was up nearly a third.

But with gyms shut and team activities off limits, sport drink sales fell by eight per cent.

Experts suggest anxiety during the pandemic has caused sleep loss, with energy drinks seen as a solution to tiredness.

Alex Beckett, drinks expert at analysts Mintel, said: “Brits are
struggling to sleep and yet we still need to be switched on.

“Young people are also looking for products that support their emotional
wellbeing.”
