Singer Janet Jackson has revealed plans to release non-fungible tokens

Janet Jackson has become the latest celebrity to join ‘crypto-mania’ as she celebrates the 35th anniversary of her album Control.

The singer’s record was first released in 1986 and features singles Nasty and When I Think of You.  Jackson – younger sister of Michael – has revealed plans to release non-fungible tokens (NFTs) – unique computer files linked to photos, songs, works of art and other media, seen by some as the digital answer to collectables.

They exist on the blockchain, an online ledger system that records transactions publicly, and can be traded freely.  In recent months NFTs have ballooned in popularity, with people paying hundreds of thousands of pounds for ones linked to pixelated artworks and even tweets.

Jackson (pictured) has teamed up with gaming and augmented reality firm RTFKT to release a series of NFTs to celebrate the anniversary of Control.

Her brother Randy said: ‘Technology through NFTs creates a new lane for artists to express their art in an innovative way throughout the world.’

Rocky Mudaliar, president of RTFKT, added: ‘Our partnership will bring rare and highly interactive experiences to the blockchain and social media.’
