The supermarket has slashed the price of the booze ahead of the bank holiday weekend

The deal launched yesterday, saving Morrisons shoppers £2.51 per bottle of the fizz for the bank holiday weekend.

The offer means that the 750ml bottle is 1p cheaper than one half the size at just 375ml, also available to buy from the supermarket.

It’s not the only supermarket using the long weekend as an excuse to sell a bargain.

Aldi’s Costellore Prosecco has the same volume and also costs £4.99, while Tesco’s cheapest option, Bella Cucina Prosecco, has the same price tag.

The next cheapest option is Lidl’s Allini Prosecco, but it’s £1 more expensive at £5.99.

How to cut the cost of your grocery shop

MONEY.CO.UK has shared some top tips with us to help you keep your supermarket spend down to a minimum.

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – You are far more likely to buy  more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – Follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

Asda’s cheapest own-brand Prosecco Spumante, is more expensive at £5.99 but is included in a two-for-£10 deal making each bottle worth a fiver.

Of course, it’s only worth doing if you were already planning on buying two bottles of fizz.

The Prosecco discount is available at all Morrisons stores in the UK as well as online.

But if you’re shopping on the web then you’ll need to factor in the delivery charge, which is between £1.70 and £6.90, and there’s a minimum £40 spend.

So the £5 bargain price of the booze might only be worth it if you’re already doing an online shop otherwise you could find yourself going over budget.

Alternatively, you can head in-store or use the store’s free click and collect service – Morrisons has a handy locator tool to help you find your closest.

The supermarket has also cut the price of beer, including a 12 pack of Corona Extra and Stella Artois, and a 20 pack of Budwesier, all of which are £12.50 at full price, now down to £9.99.

Morrisons is also running an offer on one-litre spirits including Gordon’s ginSmirnoff Premium Vodka and Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum which cost £15.99 each, down from £20.50 normally.

But you’ll still have to be quick as all the stock at the store is subject to availability and the cheap prices mean they will sell out fast.
