But the outage wasn’t fixed before disrupting customers’ work as millions rely on the service while working from home under coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Issues with the internet provider began around 10:30am this morning, according to complaints tracker Downdetector.

Up to 1,700 customers complained about the service, which mainly impacted users primarily in the south of England.

Households in London appear to have been the worst affected, as well as those in Cardiff, Cambridge, Brighton and Norwich.

Around 80% of the complaints were about a broadband outage, while just 15% concern patchy mobile internet service and 3% about issues with TV packages.

A spokesperson for Virgin Media said: “Some customers very briefly lost access to certain online content and services this morning.

“We apologise to anyone impacted by this short issue which lasted around 15 minutes and has now been resolved.”

Even so, angry customers took to Twitter to complain about how the outage interrupted their work.

One person wrote: “@virginmedia down again.”

While another said: “@virginmedia second day of your wifi continuously cutting out but you won’t update your service page to reflect these issues.”

A third person wrote: “@virginmedia So my service has gone down again in my area…:/ Your Status Checker broke as well 🙁 (on 4G and works fine).

“Please make it more stable :/”.
