Federal Reserve Vice-Chairman Richard Clarida said Friday that the expected path of the recovery this year could be volatile, in a television interview on Bloomberg Television that gave few hints as to when the central bank might pare back its support for the economy.

“We do think the economy is going to reopen,” but as this happens there is likely to be pent-up demand fueled by Fed and other government support that will confront possible supply issues, Mr. Clarida said.
