Instagram announced the Remix on Reels feature ahead of its global launch this evening.

‘Tonight we are launching Remix on Reels, a new creative tool that allows people to create their own Reel alongside an existing Reel,’ a spokesperson explained.

‘Whether you’re capturing a reaction, responding to your friends, or getting involved in the latest trends – Remix unlocks a fun new way to create, share your reaction, and add your individual perspective.’

To try Reels Remix yourself, simply open the Instagram app and tap on the Reels icon at the centre of the bottom bar.

Find a Reel you’d like to react to, and tap on the three dot menu, before selecting ‘Remix this Reel.’

The screen will split in half, with the original Reel on the left and your new ‘Remix’ on the right.

Record your video and then edit it, using the slider icon at the top to edit the volume for the original audio and your recorderd audio, and the microphone icon to record your own voiceover.

Once you’re happy with your video, simply post it to Instagram and it will appear on your profile!

Instagram hopes the new tool will encourage collaboration and creativity on the platform.

It added: ‘Interactive tools such as Live Rooms, polls and questions in Stories, and AR effects have always been a huge part of how people connect on Instagram.

‘We’re excited to bring this collaborative magic to Reels, and give people more ways to create and engage with the trends, songs and creators that are making our culture on Instagram.’

TikTok has become the must-have app for young social media fans, and now outpaces Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger in hours per use.

Data from App Annie revealed that the monthly time spent per user on TikTok grew faster than nearly every other app analysed, including 70 per cent in the US and 80 per cent in the UK — surpassing Facebook.

According to App Annie, TikTok is now on track to hit 1.2 billion active users in 2021.
