WASHINGTON—The next big chunk of stimulus payments—for Social Security beneficiaries—should reach bank accounts by next week, the Treasury Department said on Tuesday.

The payments of up to $1,400 per person come from the $1.9 trillion law signed by President Biden earlier this month. Most taxpayers have already received their money, but the payments to Social Security recipients who don’t file tax returns were moving more slowly as the Internal Revenue Service was waiting for data from the Social Security Administration.

The payments should arrive in bank accounts and recipients’ existing federal Direct Express cards by April 7, the government said.

More to come.
