New York City’s restaurants may be closed for indoor service because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the popular NYC Restaurant Week promotion is returning in a new format that will emphasize delivery and takeout options.

NYC & Company, the nonprofit organization that markets New York City as a tourist destination and runs the NYC Restaurant Week program, said the reconfigured promotion will run Jan. 25-31 with 570 participating establishments from throughout the five boroughs. Restaurants can individually elect to continue the promotion through Feb. 7.

Dubbed NYC Restaurant Week To Go, the program will give diners the opportunity to purchase a $20.21 delivery or takeout meal, featuring at least an entree and side dish, from each establishment. Restaurants that are featuring outdoor service have the option to extend the promotion to in-person customers.

The program differs from the traditional twice-a-year NYC Restaurant Week in which participating establishments, at least in the last pre-pandemic promotion, offered two-course lunches for $26 and three-course dinners for $42.

The program arrives at a time when New York City restaurants are struggling to survive. Without the ability to serve patrons indoors, many are seeing revenue drop dramatically, even as some try to continue to entice customers to dine outdoors.
