Sir Brian Leveson, known for his inquiry into the Press eight years ago, has published his first report on Boohoo’s supply chain overhaul.
Last year the fashion retailer was exposed for sweatshop-style conditions and low pay at the Leicester factories it uses. Following the revelations retired judge Leveson (pictured) was hired in November to oversee Boohoo’s so-called Agenda for Change with accountants KPMG tasked with independently tracking its progress. As part of the agenda the company has been reviewing its UK supply chain across Britain and internationally to replace bad actors with alternative ethical suppliers. So far Boohoo has removed 64 suppliers from its UK roster.
Leveson said it had started well although some areas remained a ‘work in progress if the group is to create and establish a critical ‘hearts and minds’ programme involving everyone in the buying chain’. Executive chairman Mahmud Kamani said he was ‘immensely proud’ of the speed of change at the company.
