Sky broadband appears to have crashed across the UK for thousands of users.

The ill-timed outage comes as millions of people, children and adults alike, are stuck at home under national lockdown.

Schools and workplaces have shut due to the soaring coronavirus infection rates across the UK, leaving millions reliant on home broadband for work and schooling.

The outage appears to begin around 10:50am and the vast majority of reported issues with Sky are regarding problems accessing the internet.

As of 10:59am GMT, outage tracker site downdetector recorded more than a thousand reports of connectivity issues from Sky customers.

Connectivity issues with the Sky-owned streaming platform NowTV have also been detected across the country, but to a lesser degree than the broadband difficulties.

The cause of the issue remains unknown, MailOnline has approached Sky for comment.

Hotspots of outages sprung up in the Midlands, Norfolk and London, but smatterings were seen at all major cities.
