BEST BUDS: Create ice cubes containing flowers. You can forage in garden for blooms to use, but check they are not toxic. Dandelions, daisies and lavender work well. Wash them well, pop in an ice cube tray, cover with cooled boiled water, then freeze.

BIGGER IS BETTER: Swanky bars often serve drinks with one large ice cube rather than lots of smaller one. Copy the move for an easy way to impress guests, especially when serving whisky.

Silicone trays for two-inch cubes are £5.99 at Amazon.

SMASHING: Crushed ice looks professional but is easy to make at home.

SUPER COOL: Frosted glasses are a nice touch for drinks including cocktails and mixers — plus they keep liquid cooler for longer.

Avoid putting more delicate types, such as crystal or very fine wine glasses, in the freezer.

And make sure glasses are at room temperature and not straight out of the dishwasher to avoid cracking.
