ALDI shoppers have spotted turkeys selling at half price with just one day to go until Christmas.

The supermarket appears to have slashed the price of some of its festive birds by 50% – ideal for last minute shoppers or those who’ve had plans cancelled last minute.

A bargain hunter shared a photo to the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains, which showed half price stickers slapped on some Aldi’s small British turkey crowns.

The price of the turkey depends on the weight of the bird but if it costs £8.99 normally, the bird will cost £4.50 in the deal.

Another shopper also said he had spotted the deal at Aldi’s Monks Cross branch in York.

He wrote on Twitter: “Turkey’s are half price in Aldi Monks cross #York you’re welcome.”

The deal had also been found at the Letchworth branch and was posted to the website Hotukdeals by an online user.

They wrote that Aldi is offering 50% off fresh turkeys as well as goose, including a premium boxed aged dry speciality turkey which costs around £50.

The supermarket has a range of turkey options and we’ve taken a look at what’s on offer at their full price.

How to cut the cost of your grocery shop

SAVING on your shop can make a big difference to your wallet. Here are some tips from comparison site Money.co.uk about how you can cut the cost of your shopping bills:

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – you are far more likely to buy more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

Aldi was crowned our cheapest supermarket turkey for the third year in a row earlier this month.

While prices vary depending on the weight, you can expect to pay £8.99 for stuffed turkey joint or £15.99 for a roly poly stuffed turkey crown.

You can also get a luxury stuffed turkey crown at full price for £17.99 and a free range turkey parcel at full parcel for £22.99.

This means you could save £4.49, £8, £9 and £11.50 respectively, depending on whether the discount applies to these products.

We couldn’t find the discount online so you’ll need to head to your nearest store to bag the bargain.

Aldi is yet to confirm the deal and share details with us about what’s on offer.

To snap up the Christmas dinner centrepiece today, you’ll have to make the trip this afternoon.

Most stores are operating at reduced hours on Christmas Eve so workers can get home in time to relax before the big day.

Aldi branches will only be open until 6pm today and the supermarket is then closed across the UK on December 25.

You can find your nearest branch using the locator tool.

But before you part with your cash, always compare the product with other retailers especially since the best deal for you can depend on how many mouths you are feeding.

Last minute Christmas shoppers also spotted Easter eggs in the aisles of several supermarkets like Morrisons, Tesco and Co-op, even though Christmas is not even over yet.

We’ve rounded up everything you need to know about the supermarket Christmas and New Year hours here.
