Marco Amitrano is to become the new boss of accountancy giant PwC
UK partners at accounting giant PwC have chosen the only man from its three-person shortlist to become their next leader.
Marco Amitrano, the firm’s head of clients and markets, was chosen ahead of female rivals Laura Hinton and Hemione Hudson.
None of the so-called Big Four accounting firms – which includes Deloitte, EY and KPMG – has ever been led in Britain by a woman.
Italian-born Amitrano, who has been with PwC for 32 years, will start a four-year term in July, replacing current boss Kevin Ellis.
Ellis described his successor as ‘a fantastic leader, with a deep understanding of our business’.
Three-quarters of PwC UK’s partners are men and it has admitted that women are underrepresented in the industry. The gender pay gap at the firm stood at 7.1 per cent last year.
