HUMAN poo will help to power planes under plans unveiled by a Brit firm.

Biofuel company Firefly is set to develop a plant converting the waste into sustainable aviation fuel.

And it has signed a deal with Wizz Air to provide up to 525,000 tons of SAF over 15 years.

Firefly chief exec James Hygate said: “Biosolids are kind of disgusting stuff but an amazing resource.

“We’re turning sewage into jet fuel.

“I can’t really think of many things that are cooler than that.”

Anglian Water is to supply biosolids from its waste water treatment process as part of a trial.

The planned factory, in Harwich, Essex, could be delivering fuel by 2028.

SAF production uses 70 per cent less carbon than conventional jet fuel, but is more expensive.

Paul Hilditch, of Firefly, added: “Where there are people, there’s poo.”
