Storage group Lok’nStore is the latest firm to be targeted by foreign bidders in the takeover frenzy gripping the City.
The board of the Hampshire company, which has 43 self-storage lock-ups, has backed an offer from European giant Shurgard of 1110p a share, valuing it at £378million.
Shares rose 16.4 per cent, or 157p, to 1115p.
The proposal, which needs shareholder approval, would make it the latest firm to leave London’s stock market.
This year bidders have swooped on packager DS Smith, haulier Wincanton, builder Bellway and Virgin Money.

City investment bank Peel Hunt has dubbed it a ‘feeding frenzy’ and warned that the FTSE Small Cap index will disappear within four years if the pace of takeovers continues.
The swoop on Lok’nStore came a day after Centaur Media, which publishes The Lawyer, said that it has received an ‘expression of interest’ from Dutch private equity.
Shurgard has 276 stores, and services 190,000 customers a year in seven countries.
A deal would see Shurgard enter the south-east of England, where Lok’nStore has 32 sites, for the first time.
