ANDROID users have taken to Reddit to praise a battery-saving setting.

The feature is found on Google Pixel phones but other Androids may have similar settings.

The battery saving advice was revealed in a popular Reddit forum.

It’s called r/GooglePixel and has 1.1 million members who share tips and tricks.

One user of the forum posted what they’d described as a mega thread about the Google Pixel.

“Welcome to the Battery Megathread, where you can find information and get assistance with any battery-related issues your Pixel might be facing,” they wrote.

Part of their advice included watching out for power hungry apps.

“Despite battery-saving features like Doze, some apps may still be able to drain away your charge undetected,” they wrote.

The first suggestion on the list involved an overlooked notification.

“Make sure that the “Apps consuming battery” notification is enabled, and wait a few minutes to see if it appears.”

To turn this feature on, first, go to Settings on your Google Pixel device.

Then, click on Apps & notifications and See all.

I tested a lesser-known Android smartphone with two perks iPhone can’t beat including a major Wi-Fi speed upgrade

Next, you need to select the More icon which is represented by three dots.

Then, tap Show system, Android system, and then Notifications.

Here you should be able to enable Apps consuming battery notifications.

Now, you can be warned about the apps that are draining your battery life.

You may find you want to delete some of the culprits or spend less time on a few of your favorites.

Why do batteries get worse over time?

Here’s what you need to know…

  • Most gadgets run on lithium-ion batteries
  • Over time, the amount of charge this type of battery can hold gets smaller
  • That means you need to charge your device more often because they hold less charge
  • Batteries have two electrode points – the cathode and the anode
  • To charge a battery, the ions inside the battery are forced from the cathode to the anode
  • When you use a battery, it moves in the reverse direction
  • This process wears away at the structure of the anode, reducing its ability to function correctly
  • But the process also builds up a kind of salt on the cathode when charging
  • As this build-up grows, the battery will accept less charge over time
  • It’s estimated that between 500 and 1,000 full charge-cycles will reduce a battery’s maximum capacity by roughly 20%
