Rise of the Ronin launched on March 22, 2024, and some players are not happy

Team Ninja’s samurai action game is earning players’ ire with underwhelming visuals and poor performance.

“Rise of Ronin runs like trash,” writes one Twitter user.

“They really shipped Rise of the Ronin like this?” questions another.

People have even posted technical breakdowns comparing its three different modes: performance, quality, and ray tracing.

Performance mode usually trades visual quality for a higher frame rate, so that the game runs smoothly at 60 frames per second on latest-gen consoles.

Rise of the Ronin’s Performance mode dips to 40 frames per second, according to one poster, while ray tracing mode sometimes goes as low as 20.

The same Twitter user was surprised that Rise of Ronin was released in its current state.

The game’s performance issues and dated graphics feel all the more strange, given that it is a current-gen exclusive, meaning it won’t be released for Sony’s last-gen console, PS4.

Other users compared the latest PS5 game to much older releases in an attempt to demonstrate that decade-old games look better than Rise of Ronin.

It’s bad news for those expecting a samurai-focused game on par with 2020’s excellent Ghost of Tsushima.

Although RPG fans do have a saving grace out the very same day, and handily for them, it might be the game of the year.
