How can I check if BT email is down?

One of the immediate ways to tell if BT mail is down for everyone – and not just you – is by checking social media like X, formerly known as Twitter.

BT may post updates on its own X account too, which you can check at @bt_uk.

The company also has its own service status checker for all its products available here.

Am I entitled to compensation?

You may be entitled to compensation if you have suffered issues with your internet, call or mobile services.

Internet firms usually pay out £9.33 for each day broadband and home phone services are not repaired after two full days of no service.

They will also pay £25 for each missed appointment, or for appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, plus you’ll get £5 for each calendar day delay to the start of the new service.

This is usually automatic.

What problems are users facing?

The majority of users are reporting issues with BT’s email service this morning.

Others are claiming the entire broadband service is down.

Responding to a user on X, the broadband company said: “We’re aware of an issue impacting BT Webmail and we’re working to fix this.

“You can access your email via BT Email app or any client email. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
