ASDA and Sainsbury’s customers are furious after finding turkeys and other festive food missing from online deliveries.
Shoppers had pre-ordered turkeys and delivery slots up to two months ago only to find they now face going cold turkey as items are now out of stock.
Customers from Asda, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose have taken to social media to complain.
“I would like to know why I bothered pre ordering my turkey from yourself,” one Asda customer said.
They added: “As it’s now out of stock[…] I need to remove it from my delivery tomorrow.”
Your Christmas delivery rights
IF your order doesn’t turn up or there are missing items, what are your rights? We explain.
- If your order is missing items or they aren’t up to scratch then the supermarket should refund you in full.
- Unfortunately there isn’t any obligation of the shop to replace your items if they are out of stock.
- But you should try complaining to the supermarket either in person or via email to ask about compensation.
A Sainsbury’s customer said that their festive food shop was missing the turkey.
Waitrose shoppers were also left disappointed over their festive food hauls.
One customer, who spoke to The Sun, said she booked a Christmas delivery slot two months ago but found out last week that turkeys were no longer available.
After adding duck, turkey gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, parsnips and pigs in blankets to her trolley, she realised with horror that none of these items were delivered.
“All I wanted for Christmas was my Waitrose delivery, so I could cook, bake and make the Christmas magic,” she said. “It will be no turkey for us this year.”
Others who also recently made changes to their online orders said they didn’t receive the extra items they had added.
One shopper said Waitrose had “fouled up big time” after she received half her delivery. “Xmas ruined?” she said.
A Waitrose spokesperson said:“We’re sorry to hear if any of our customers have encountered problems with their order.
“Our stock levels are good and we believe a small number of orders may have been impacted by an isolated technical issue.
“We are in the process of responding to any affected customers and we will do everything we can to accommodate them to ensure they have the products they need.”
An Asda spokesperson said: “Due to a technical error a small number of customers didn’t receive their turkey as planned in their online order this weekend.
“We are contacting these customers to apologise and provide a solution, as we make it a priority to ensure our customers receive their Christmas dinner in full.
“Any customer who hasn’t purchased their turkey yet will still find good availability across our stores.”
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We have everything our customers need for a Great British Christmas lunch.
“We are looking into these isolated customer experiences.”
Many more shoppers could face empty fridges this Christmas after it has been revealed stores could run out of fruit and vegetables within days.
The PM is chairing a COBRA meeting this morning to try hold off a surge in panic-buying as France shut down air, sea and the Eurotunnel routes.
Lorry queues are already stretching seven miles along routes to ports in both Britain and France as fears have grown over the certainty of food supply.
Sainsbury’s warned that if “nothing changes” it will start to see shortages of lettuce, some salad leaves, cauliflower, broccoli and citrus fruits.
Shoppers who have to self-isolate over Christmas have also had delivery woes of their own, after online supermarket delivery slots have sold out.
Customers have been struggling to bag a pre-Christmas slot, leaving many concerned about how they will get their groceries in.
