Workers party leader meets speaker of House of Commons as parliament returns after weekend

George Galloway has been sworn in as the MP for Rochdale as parliament returned for the first time since the Workers party leader’s byelection win last week.

In line with House of Commons procedure, he was accompanied into the chamber by the two MPs who had sponsored him – the Conservative father of the house, Peter Bottomley, and the former SNP member Neale Hanvey, who is now a member of the Alba party.
