FACEBOOK boss Mark Zuckerberg has further fuelled rivalry with Apple after slating the company’s new mixed reality headset.

The Meta owner, 39, had hardly any positives to say about the flashy Apple Vision Pro, only managing to describe some features as “nice”.

The Apple Vision Pro was released in the US on February 2 marking a whole new product category for the iPhone maker.

But Zuckerberg is out to defend his long-running Quest devices – which have been going since 2019 – and his big dream for the metaverse.

The tech billionaire’s biggest point was the mega price difference.

The current Meta Quest 3 starts from about £479.99 / $499, whereas the Apple Vision Pro is a whooping £2,749 / $3,499.

“After using it, I don’t just think that Quest is the better value, I think that Quest is the better product period,” Zuckerberg said in a video posted on Instagram.

“When I look around it seems like there are a lot of people who just assumed that Vision Pro would be higher quality because it’s Apple and it costs $3,000 more but honestly I’m pretty surprised that Quest is so much better for the vast majority of things that people use these headsets for with that price differential.”

The Facebook founder didn’t show himself wearing the rival headset but said he found it less comfortable than Meta Quest and highlighted that it has no wires unlike the Vision Pro.

“Apple’s screen does have a higher resolution and that’s really nice but I was surprised by how many trade offs they had to make to the quality of the device and the comfort and the ergonomics,” he continued.

“Both headsets support hand tracking but I found ours to be a little more accurate.

“They have different strengths, but overall Quest is better for the vast majority of things that people use mixed reality for.”

Zuckerberg also said that Quest’s immersive content library is “a lot deeper” and that users can watch YouTube or play Xbox on it, which the Vision Pro doesn’t support.

He concluded saying that he believes Quest will win the competition because it has an “open model” whereas Apple is stricter.
