ALDI has wowed excited shoppers after they dropped a brand-new Easter egg just in time for the big day.

The beloved supermarket has announced a Toblerone Easter egg dupe that tastes exactly the same as the Swiss chocolatier’s version but costs nearly half the price.

The fantastic new chocolate treat has been called the Swiss Mountain Egg and according to Aldi it “tastes just like Toblerone”.

Much like the classic bar of Toblerone, the egg is made up of silky Swiss milk chocolate packed with drizzles of honey and almond nougat pieces.

The delicious new addition to Easter comes in a beautifully packaged box and even includes four mini Mountain Bars inside that include the much-loved ridges of the classic Toblerone bars.

Even the egg draws a close resemblance to Toblerone bars as it features a number of raised triangular shaped bites – much like the official alternative egg.

And to make it even better it only costs £6.99 for the entire 240g egg and four extra bite-sized chocolates.

Making it an impressive 31 per cent cheaper than the £10 Toblerone equivalent being sold at other supermarkets such as Asda and Morrisons.

It is also a whopping 41 per cent cheaper than Ocado and Sainsbury’s version.

But unfortunately chocolate lovers will be forced to dream about that first bite into the Swiss Mountain Egg for a little while longer.

The egg will go on sale in various Aldi stores from March 10, giving Easter fanatics plenty of time to snack on the treat before the big day on March 31.

Aldi’s complete Easter range

Aldi unveiled the showstopping Easter treat alongside several other brand-new chocolate themed goodies.

Also in the range is the Giant Galeggsy Egg – a 600g egg three times heavier than traditional Easter eggs.

A Salted Caramel Crunch Egg is next on the list and it is the usual Aldi egg but decorated with salted caramel pearls and luxurious truffles on the side.

A range of Belgian chocolate eggs are also fresh to shelves this Easter including milk, white and dark chocolate treats.

New to stores are the Milk Chocolate and Valencia Orange Marble Egg, the White Chocolate and Scottish Raspberry Marble Egg, the Dark Chocolate & Rich Coffee Ripple Egg, the White Chocolate with Mango & Passion Fruit Ripple Egg and the Honeycomb & Pretzel Egg.

Two popcorn and chocolate slabs are also new as are cute Charlie the Labrador and Honey the Golden Retriever chocolate bites shaped like dogs.

Across the UK, several other supermarket are launching their 2024 Easter range and shoppers are really started to get excited.

Legendary chocolatiers Cadbury has launched “the ultimate” Easter egg that Asda shoppers are calling a “game changer”.

The newest chocolate egg to hit supermarket shelves has wowed shoppers with one happy customer even begging her pal to “please buy it for me”.

Other Easter eggs making headlines this year include Tony’s Chocolonely Easter egg with a selection of mini eggs.

And the Fairtrade milk chocolate oval is blended with sea salt and caramel, which is bound to leave fans of the classic flavour buzzing.
