The popular cafe chain which many coffee lovers think is “better than Costa and Starbucks” already has more than 600 locations.

The new store will be situated just 500 yards from the main terminal building on the main road into and out of the airport.

When the drive-thru branch opens at London Stanstead Airport customers will have the choice of five outlets at this location.

Caffe Nero is the fourth-largest coffee chain in the UK behind other big names such as Costa and Starbucks.

The chain might be in fourth place when it comes to size, but many coffee aficionados think it hits the top spot when it comes to taste.

We had a look at some online forums and the chain is the “go-to” for many when it comes to getting their caffeine hit.

A discussion on Quora asked, “Where is the best place to get a coffee from in the UK, is it Starbucks, Caffe Nero or Costa?”

One person said: “Caffe Nero first, Costa second and Starbucks a distant third”.

Another agreed and said: “Caffe Nero, Costa and then Starbucks.

A third person added: “From that choice, I’d suggest Caffe Nero, but I would put Starbucks next.”

Gerry Ford, Founder and group chief executive officer of Caffe Nero, said: “I’m delighted that we are opening our first drive-thru store in the world.”

He added that the store is an “experiment” that allows Caffe Nero to expand its store format and will be a “template” for future drive-thru stores.

Other chains have also been opening up new 24-hour stores for customers who want to get their caffeine hit any hour of the day.

Bakery giant Greggs has around 2,300 sites around the country and six of them are 24-hour.

All are airport locations, including Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Gatwick.

Greggs has also been extending its opening hours for around 500 shops to 8pm or later and opening up more drive-thru locations.

It currently has at least 17 drive-thru stores across the country and plans to open as many as 10 more.

Meanwhile, Costa has been shutting down some of its branches leaving fans fuming.

However many were sweetened up again with the chance of getting a slice of cake for just £1.

Also, in December Starbucks fans were delighted as eight new food and drink options were added to the menu.
