WETHERSPOON has put another pub at risk of closure, and punters are shocked at the move.

The boozer has told The Sun that one of its Poole pubs will be put on the market.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoon said: “I can confirm that The Quay in Poole will shortly be going on the market.

“The pub will remain trading as normal until it is sold.”

Reacting to the news on Facebook, one local said: “Wow, that surprises me. Whenever I walk by, it always seems busy.”

Another person said: “No matter what opinion you have about Wetherspoons… Spare a moment for the staff.”

“Should have been the other one…” said a third punter.

Wetherspoon has also confirmed today that The Cricketers in Ipswich has now closed for refurbishment.

However, it will reopen to punters on Friday, February 2.

Last week, the chain confirmed that the Rochester Castle in London will be sold three decades after it first became a Wetherspoons.

And dozens of other locations remain listed for sale.

Spoons also announced the sale of a popular Edinburgh pub.

The Foot of the Walk bar in Edinburgh’s Leith is also on the market following a sewer pipe bursting underneath the premises.

The chain – which has 827 pubs across the UK – warned last September it was putting dozens of its pubs up for sale.

In December, 20 Wetherspoons were up for sale with eight under offer, leaving fans gutted that their local branch could be lost forever.

The Percy Shaw in Halifax called last orders on January 7 after Wetherspoon sold the venue to a new owner.

Other pubs were up for sale in Battersea, Bristol, Peebles, and Shipley.

It comes as a number of UK pubs have closed their doors for good amid a turbulent economic backdrop.

Increased energy and wage costs are piling further pressure on businesses.

But, Wetherspoons continues to run sales and excite its loyal fanbase.

From March 6 punters will get the chance to sample a range of 30 different real ales including five from overseas brewers.

The festival will run for 12 days from Wednesday 6 March to Sunday 17 March.
