WORDLE players have been left frustrated after the popular New York Times game crashed for users.

The viral game sees players guess what the five-letter word of the day is within six turns, before waiting until the next day for a new puzzle.

But gamers have been left annoyed today after being unable to log in.

Several frustrated users have taken to X – formerly Twitter – to discuss the outage, with one claiming it has “completely ruined their morning routine”.

“Wordle is down. My 12am ritual is in tatters,” another user wrote, indicating that the game has been down for hours.

Fans of the game who pride themselves on maintaining a series of unbroken daily wins have blasted it as a total “streak breaker”.

A third moaned: “Wordle being down on day 200 of my current streak is CRUEL.”

When accessing the game, many users faced an error message which read: “Timed out while waiting on cache-lcy-eglc8600075-LCY.”

Wordle was created by software engineer and former Reddit employee, Josh Wardle, and was launched in October 2021.

The title of the internet word game is a pun on Wardle’s last name, hence Wordle.

Each day, players must guess the same five letter word.

They have six chances and each time letters turn green if they’re in the correct place or yellow if they’re included in the final world but not in the correct place.

The inventor initially devised the game during lockdown for himself and his wife.

But it proved so popular that the New York Times announced that it had purchased Wordle in 2022 for an undisclosed, low-seven figure fee.
