POKÉMON is known for its collaborations, but one major collab from last year ended in disaster.

The Van Gogh Museum partnered with the world’s biggest franchise, adding new merchandise to the museum’s gift store.

There were a number of Pokémon-themed Van Gogh art pieces, such as Sunflora in Sunflowers, and Pikachu replacing Van Gogh in Self Portrait in Grey Felt Hat.

However, there was chaos when the exhibit opened at the museum in Amsterdam, as fans rushed the store to buy items.

Videos of customers pushing and crushing others to grab the limited edition items soon surfaced.

Many pieces of merchandise were soon seen online, as scalpers tried to sell them at very inflated prices.

It appears that it wasn’t only the customers who were behaving badly at the opening, but staff too.

The Van Gogh Museum confirmed to the press that four people were suspended due to the collaboration, which lasted from September until January.

A spokesperson confirmed that the employees would not be returning to the museum.

One of the employees had reportedly been working at the museum for more than 25 years but has been removed due to misconduct.

There were a number of reasons for the employees’ suspensions, including alerting people to when event tickets would be available for purchase.

The exact timing was not advertised publicly in order to dissuade people from using bots to buy large amounts of tickets for resale.

Another employee reportedly tried to embezzle a box of the limited edition Pokémon cards.

These cards sell for around £100 on sites like eBay as they were only available at the museum.
