AMAZON Prime Video subscribers can save up to £36/$96 per year by opting for a ‘hidden’ package – but there is a catch.

With adverts being added to Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service, and the ad-free tier becoming more expensive – many subscribers are looking for ways to save.

This Prime Video-only package costs just £5.99/$6.99 per month

Cordbusters found that many subscribers are paying for the full Amazon Prime service – which offers free shipping and a limited music subscription, alongside Prime Video.

The full tier costs about £8.99/$14.99 per month, or £95/$139 for a year.

But Prime Video actually has a standalone subscription option, for those who rarely need free shipping and don’t use Amazon Music.

The catch? Adverts are added to the £5.99/$6.99 plan.

But viewers can make it ad-free for an extra £2.99/$3 per month – which still makes it cheaper than the full monty.

According to Cordbusters, this subscription is not easily found.

For example, when viewers sign up for Prime Video’s 30-day free trial, their subscription automatically renews at £8.99/$14.99 per month afterwards.

“It seems Amazon would much rather sign you up for the full Prime subscription, therefore the standalone Prime Video subscription is hard to find – and is almost impossible to sign up to on mobile devices,” the report wrote.

“Although we’ve been assured in the past by Amazon’s PR that the standalone Prime Video tier isn’t being phased out, it sure looks like Amazon really wants you to sign up for the full Prime membership, and not the standalone video one.”

While US viewers stand to save much more, every little helps these days.

How to find the low-cost cheaper Prime Video tier

On a Desktop computer browser, go to the Amazon Prime sign-up page.

On that page, assuming you’re not already a Prime member, you’ll see a small link that says “See more plans”

Once you click on “See more plans”, you’ll see the three available Prime subscription tiers – each prices at £5.99, £8.99 and £95 respectively.
