Android owners are getting a major free Gmail upgrade that’ll help them kill spam for good

ANDROID owners have quietly received a long-awaited upgrade to their Gmail accounts – and it will help them combat spam for good.

Gmail for Android users now has a prominent Unsubscribe button at the top of emails, making it easier to opt out of unwanted messages.

It’s a must-have for tackling spam that evades Google’s built-in spam-sorting algorithm.

Or for those pesky newsletters and alerts you forgot you signed up for.

The Unsubscribe button appears differently depending on how the sender or publisher uses it.

For example, a newsletter may ask for confirmation or redirect you to their website to unsubscribe.

The new button is rolling out in stages, according to reports.

To check if you’ve received yet, simply update your Gmail app and make sure you’re running the latest Android software.

There is also an Unsubscribe option in the overflow menu, though Android users may have missed this.

The Android version of Gmail has long lagged behind the version iPhone owners receive.

In September last year, Google announced it was gifting Android owners the popular time-saving Select All feature that can help relieve some storage space.

When an email is selected in the app, the Select All tick-box appears in the top left of the screen, below the number of emails that have been clicked on.

While the option says it will ‘Select All’ – it actually only selects 50 at a time, which is the same as the desktop version.

So while it can’t completely clear out your inbox, it makes purging emails received on annual leave way less stressful.
