Catch Up’s goal is to help users go through their unread channels and messages a little faster.

David Pierce from The Verge describes the tool as “Tinder for Enterprise Messaging.”

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Much like your favorite dating apps, the feature lets users swipe through direct messages, group chats, and channels.

You can either swipe left to mark a message as read or swipe right to leave it unread.

To access the tool, all you need to do is on Catch Up at the of the app’s home screen.

The feature will then display to the user one unread channel or DM at a time.

THE GOAL

Slack hopes Catch Up will be utilized by workers to help them prioritize or get a leg up on work before they get to the office.

“Before they get to their desk in the morning, or when they’re away from their desk, or maybe at lunch — a 30-second session, super fast, just trying to catch up,” Akshay Bakshi, a product management director at Slack, told The Verge.

“Then the stuff they want to get back to at their desktop, they leave it for later.”

The new approach is meant to not only make checking messages easier and faster but also more fun.

Slack’s Senior Vice President Ethan Eismann told The Verge the “nice thing about read/unread is it’s kind of an escape hatch.”

“If I’m not ready to make a decision… unread. It’s easy,” he added.

The company also hopes to eventually utilize artificial intelligence (AI) for the tool.

This could help with summarizing and organizing the cards in a smart way to help users make decisions even faster.

Catch Up isn’t the only change that Slack has been working on recently, the company also unveiled a redesign of its mobile app last year.

The company has also been teetering with the idea of adding a Focus Mode, similar to Apple’s products.
