Speaking on his ITV show tonight, Lewis said: “Most of you watching this – you are being ripped off on your mobile bill.

“You need to take action to change it.”

Lewis said the first step you should take is to find out whether you are free to leave your contract.

Text “INFO” for free to 85075 to check if you are free to leave – as you could be one of more than 14million Brits who are out of contract.

Next, use a cheap SIM comparison website to weigh up different deals.

Lewis singled out TalkMobile, which offers 6GB and unlimited texts on a one-year contract for just £3.50 a month.

He also said that iD Mobile offers a whopping 100GB of data for £7 a month on a one-year tariff.

Finally, take a quick step to keep your phone number after you switch contracts.

Text PAC to 65075, which will send you a code which you can pass on to your new network.

Lewis said that Brits should not fret about getting weaker signal if they switch providers.

He said: “There are only four mobile networks in the UK. Every other company is piggy-backing.”

You can use a price comparison site to find the cheapest tariff on the phone network you already use.

That way, you will slash your monthly phone bill while keeping the same signal.

It comes as a major scheme giving out a one-off payment worth £300 reopens this week – but you’ll need to be quick.
