YOU may have woken up to a flurry of snow this morning – and there’s more to come, so you’ll want to stay informed.

A yellow weather warning has been issued across much of the South of England by the Met Office today, urging people to be careful of ice and snow in some spots.

Get alerts before weather hits

Across the pond, a huge winter storm in the US has brought heavy snow across parts of the north east.

Snow can come and go at any time – and with it comes disruption.

So a good way to stay on top of changes is with a little-known iPhone trick that sends you alerts just before snow hits.

It cleverly works from your exact location and is totally free to set up.

The feature usually says the exact time to the minute you can expect it too, so there are no nasty surprises.

You’ll get an alert whenever snow, hail or rain is about to start where you are right now.

This gives you time to run for cover or think twice before setting off in the car on a long journey.

Or, best of all, just not go out at all if you can avoid it.

It only takes a few seconds to activate these alerts.

How to enable weather alerts on your iPhone

First, make sure you’re updated with the latest version of iOS.

Next, you’ll need to grant the Weather app access to your location info, otherwise it won’t work.

You can do this by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Weather and select Always.

You’ll get even better alerts if you grant Precise Location access.

Next, make sure the Weather app can send notifications.

Go to Settings > Notifications > Weather > Allow Notifications, and then select which type of alerts you want.

Finally, you then need to enable weather alerts.

Go into the Weather app and choose the list icon in the bottom-right.

At the top you’ll see an option called Stay Dry.

If that doesn’t appear, tap the three dots in the top right and then go to Notifications.

Tap Turn On Notifications.

Switch on Severe Weather and Next-Hour Precipitation.

Then tap Done in the top-right and it should work.

Now you’ll get a warning just before it’s about to start snowing, hailing or raining where you are.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best…

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), then tap in the bar and type a currency (like $200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier
