Toilet

Placing an Echo near your toilet is advised against for obvious reasons.

Not only will the device be exposed to lingering germs, but there’s also a higher risk of it getting wet if it is placed in the bathroom.

Instead, place it on the bathroom wall with a sticky strip or a nail if you can.

And make sure your Alexa is a safe distance away from the bathtub.

Sink

As highlighted above, your Amazon Alexa should be kept well away from any running water.

Washing the dishes can be a messy task, and if water sprays towards the device, it would lead to a system malfunction.

To avoid this risk, place it on a kitchen island or counter where it won’t be at risk of being splashed.

By your windows

Keeping your echo on the windowsill could pose a privacy risk.

For example, if your car is connected to your smart speaker, someone may be able to unlock and start it.

Under your TV

Amazon Alexa devices are routinely doing the rounds during advert breaks.

When the words “Alexa, play…” are uttered, your speaker will pick up on that instruction.

Not only does this interrupt the show you’re watching, but it also starts recording what’s said after the command.

Placing it on a side table makes more sense and is more likely to keep the voice assistant quiet until you make a command.

Some 45 per cent of people are now more worried about their energy bills than they were last year, according to research from Amazon.
