The feature, which can be accessed via an app on your smart phone, launched for the first time in August.

It allowed shoppers to save into their Cashpots as normal, and receive a cash bonus on top.

But the vouchers, worth £20 on average, have to be redeemed by the end of December 31 before they expire.

More than 1.2million savvy shoppers have already created vouchers before the deadline.

Asda is now urging anyone who hasn’t yet done so to claim the cash as soon as possible.

It comes as the high street supermarket chain is set to open hundreds of new petrol station convenience stores by 2026.

Meanwhile, the supermarket chain said it would open 34 Asda Express branches before Christmas.

The newly converted Asda Express stores stock up to 3,000 branded and own-label products including essentials such as milk and bread.

How does Asda Rewards work?

Asda Rewards allows shoppers to build up “Asda Pounds” when shopping in-store or online and completing certain tasks.

These Pounds go into a “Cashpot” which can then be converted into vouchers to get money off future purchases.

To create a voucher you have to go to the wallet section of the Asda Rewards app on your phone and select “Create Voucher”.

After this, you confirm the amount you want to spend from your Cashpot.

You can download the loyalty app on to your smart phone for free by using Google Play or the App Store.

You have to scan the app at the till every time you do a shop and the Pounds are added to your account.
