A BRAND new streaming service from the UK’s main broadcasters has been unveiled ahead of launch next year.

Freely is a fresh alternative to Freeview with a twist.

Viewers will be able to do away with their aerial or dish and rely on the internet to watch live channels instead.

It comes as traditional broadcasters fight to keep audiences in a TV landscape dominated by the likes of Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime.

Paid rivals like Sky and Virgin Media have already launched their own Wi-Fi based TV services.

Plans for Freely were announced in September.

Now the brand identity has been revealed with a distinctive “cheeky” logo.

The project is the result of a massive collaboration between the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5.

It will provide access to live and on demand content from public service broadcasters and other free-to-air channels all in one place over broadband for free for the first time.

Freely will be built into the next generation of smart TVs.

The group has announced that TV maker Hisense will incorporate the service across their 2024 TVs and remotes as part of a five-year deal.

Everyone TV – the joint venture behind the idea – is expected to reveal more details about the launch next year.

“We have a cheeky, modern, and expressive character – which we have dubbed ‘Freemoji’ – that brings the brand to life as the viewer’s welcoming and inquisitive companion. Happy, sad, excited, scared, great free TV has the power to make us feel every emotion and we wanted a character to represent this,” said Amy Rowcliffe, Marketing Director at Everyone TV.

“Our distinctive new branding will bring free TV into the streaming age for everyone – with a world of endless entertainment, all in one place.”
