SETTING up an Amazon Fire TV Stick has quite a few steps so it’s easy to overlook some of the finer details.

One feature not to overlook is your default Privacy Settings.

It’s important you set these to a standard you’re comfortable with so you don’t end up sharing more data than you planned.

According to Fire Stick Tricks, the collection of data can leave users feeling compromised.

The default Fire TV settings allow for device usage data collection, app usage data collection, and data monitoring.

This data collection is designed to enhance users’ experiences but you can opt out if you don’t feel comfortable.

Amazon explains: “We use this data to provide you with the features of your device, for example, to fulfill the actions you take on the device (such as opening an app), to allow you to restore the settings on your device, and to help you troubleshoot when you experience technical issues.

“We also use it to develop and improve products and features for all our customers and to gain insights into how our products are being used, assess customer engagement, identify potential quality issues, analyze our business, and customize marketing offers.”

It’s easy to disable the data monitoring and collection settings.

Go to your Settings app and then click on Preferences.

Click on Privacy Settings and you’ll see a few options you can disable.

This includes options such as Device Usage Data, Collect App Usage Data, and Internet-based Ads.

Toggle these until you’re happy and then click the Back button to return to Preferences.

Now, you can click on the Data Monitoring setting.

Just like with the other settings, you can simply click to switch it off.

If you change your mind about any of these settings, follow the same steps to turn them back on.
