CHRISTMAS is nearly here so it’s time to save some money by cancelling unwanted subscriptions.

You may have some “vampire” bills quietly emptying your bank account.

Thankfully both iPhone and Android have simple options for cancelling these “forgotten” subscriptions.

Maybe you signed up for something and totally forgot about it – or you just haven’t got around to cancelling an ongoing membership.

Whatever the case, it’s better to stop paying for any apps that you’re not using, otherwise it’s just money down the drain.

However, note that if you signed up for subscriptions outside of the official app store routes, you won’t be able to cancel them using these methods.

Instead you’ll have to log in to each service individually and cancel them using their own settings pages.

How to find and cancel Android subscriptions

Unlock your Android device and go into your settings, then look for Subscriptions.

Or alternatively, click this link.

Then you can simply tap on the subscription that you want to end and choose Cancel Subscription.

You’ll be guided through some short instructions and the membership will be cancelled.

Once you cancel a subscription, you’ll still be able to use it for the time you’ve already paid for.

Google explains: “For example, if you buy a one-year subscription on January 1 for $10 and decide to cancel your subscription on July 1, you’ll have access to the subscription until December 31..

“You won’t be charged another yearly subscription of $10 the following January 1.”

Google won’t refund your past subscriptions unless you meet an exception in the official Google Play refund policy, however.

You can restart subscriptions at any time (as long as the app still offers them and you have the necessary funds).

Just go back into the Subscriptions, tap on an inactive one, and then choose Resubscribe.

Some apps also let you pause subscriptions instead of cancelling them altogether.

If there’s an option for that, it’ll be in the subscription settings under Manage > Pause Payments.

How to find and cancel iPhone subscriptions

Unlock your iPhone and then tap on the Settings app.

Now tap on your name at the very top and then choose the Subscriptions tab.

Tap on a subscription that you’d like to end, and then select Cancel Subscription.

If you see an option for See All Plans, try tapping that first – you’ll be able to look at other options for paying, like monthly instead of annually.

You can cancel a subscription at any time, and you’ll still be able to use it for the time you’ve paid.

But you’re cancelling the subscription renewal, so it won’t automatically start again and collect a payment at the end of the period.
