LinkedIn’s editorial team shared some of these tips with users recently.

“One of the most basic but important steps in configuring a wireless network is choosing a unique and secure network name (SSID) and password (also called a passphrase or key),” the website noted.

“If you use the default SSID and password that came with your router, you are making your network vulnerable to hackers and intruders,” it added.

Moreover, users can create confusion and interference with other nearby networks that might have the same SSID, such as your neighbors.

If this is the case, your Wi-Fi network is probably lagging and not getting maximized speed.

To avoid this, LinkedIn suggests changing your SSID and password to something easy to remember but also hard to guess.

“You should also use a strong encryption method, such as WPA2 or WPA3, to protect your network traffic,” the company said.

WPA2 or WPA3s work by encrypting your traffic and preventing unauthorized access from hackers.

ADDITIONAL TIPS

To get the most from your Wi-Fi, you’ll want to make sure you keep your router away from objects that can interfere with its signal.

This includes other electronics, large metal objects, and bulky furniture.

Some electronic devices to avoid include microwaves and TVs because they emit strong signals on their own.

Your Wi-Fi must also be somewhere where its connection cannot be hindered.

Most experts recommend placing a wireless router in a centralized location in your home.

If your router is in a distant corner of your home, you are probably not getting the best reach.
