Experience: Andrew Hauser will join the Australian central bank early next year

Bank of England official Andrew Hauser has been appointed deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA).

Hauser, who has worked on Threadneedle Street for over 30 years and is executive director of markets, will join the Australian central bank early next year.

The position has been vacant since Michele Bullock was promoted to governor of the Australian central bank two months ago.

Hauser said he was ‘humbled and deeply honoured to be asked to serve as the RBA’s deputy governor’.

Hauser has a master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics and a politics, philosophy and economics degree from Oxford University.

The appointment of an external candidate to the senior leadership of the RBA is the latest move by the government to revamp the decade-old institution after a review recommended sweeping changes. Bullock said Hauser had ‘great experience and will bring a welcome external perspective’ to the RBA.
