The cheese advent calendar is causing a stir on social media after one Lidl customer found the item in their local store and posted a picture of it on Facebook.

The post was made in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group where members regularly share their shopping finds.

It read: “Cheese advent calendar from Lidl, it was £9.99 so don’t think it’s a bargain but it is the first time I have seen it.

“Also the cheese is good until next year.”

The post racked up almost 800 comments with shoppers eager to get their hands on the cheesy countdown.

The advent calendar is made by Ilchester Cheese and contains 24 cheeses.

As well as including traditional flavours such as cheddar cheese and red Leicester, the calender also includes two new flavours.

One person commenting on the post said: “Had this for the last two years from Lidl I absolutely love it”.

Another commented: “OMG, I didn’t even know this was a thing”.

While a third said: “Oh this is my perfect advent calendar“.

However, one person was not convinced and said: “You must be a weirdo if you prefer this to a normal one”.

Other people were also commenting on the price and saying that they had found the advent calendar elsewhere for cheaper.

One person said: “It is £9 in Morrisons.”

It is always good to shop around the make sure you are getting the cheapest deal.

You can use price comparison sites such as Google Shopping to compare prices of products across different retailers.

We checked with other supermarkets to see how much others were charging for the calendar.

Ocado and Morrisons have the Ilchester cheese calendar online for £9, which is just slightly cheaper than the Lidl price.

Sainsbury’s also has the same one for £10 online, so they are just a penny more expensive than Lidl.

We couldn’t see any alternative choices in cheese calendars, but that does not mean there are not any available.

We checked online with supermarkets and retailers, but there is sometimes more on offer if you go in store.

Remember stock levels and prices change all the time so it is best to do your own price comparisons when you are ready to buy.

Meanwhile, Walkers Crisps has launched a “24 days of crips” advent calendar and it is causing quite a stir among crisp lovers.

We also tested some chocolate advent calendars ahead of December and the winner is perfect for kids.

Also, if you are already doing the festive food shop, we put to the test some pigs in blankets.

The winner might surprise you as it beat Aldi and Tesco to the top spot.

If you are looking for ways to save money on your Christmas dinner this year, we also compared supermarkets to see who came out cheapest.

There are other ways you can look to save money on your Christmas supermarket shop too.

It might be getting a bit late to join a savings scheme, but a number of supermarkets do them, and you can still sign up.

Even if it will not make much difference this year, you can always be thinking ahead to make things a little easier next year.

All of the major names do them such as Morrisons, Asda, Iceland and Sainsbury’s.

If you are a fan of loyalty cards, Christmas might be a good time to use up your points.

You could be surprised by how many points you have managed to save over the course of the year.

Lastly, remember it is Black Friday on November 27 and many retailers have already started to discount some items, so keep your eyes peeled for a bargain.
