Landmark appointment: Janet Truncale (pictured) will take over at the helm at EY the start of July

EY has become the first Big Four accounting firm to appoint a female chief executive.

Janet Truncale, who leads the company’s financial services business in the Americas, will take over at the helm at the start of July. She will replace Carmine Di Sibio, who will step down in June after four years.

Her appointment means that EY will be the only Big Four accounting firm to be led by a woman. PwC, KPMG and Deloitte are led by men. ‘It will truly be an honour to lead this amazing organisation,’ Truncale said.

‘The work we do in creating opportunity for our people and clients, as well as our role in the capital markets, defines EY as an organisation, and I couldn’t be prouder.

‘I am inspired by the example Carmine has set, instilling an intent to be profession leaders, focusing on staying ahead of the curve in technology and most of all personifying EY values.’

It comes just months after EY scrapped plans to spin off its consulting business into a separate public company.
