Take-off: Some 7 million passengers travelled through Heathrow Airport last month – up 19% compared to October 2022
Heathrow Airport has become the fourth busiest airport in the world after a bumper half-term.
Some 7m passengers travelled through the west London airport last month. This was up 19 per cent compared to October 2022 when 5.9m flew through the airport.
Around 2.2m passengers passed through Heathrow’s terminals during the October half-term school holiday, with Dubai, New York and Los Angeles among the most popular destinations, Heathrow said.
And the huge demand means Heathrow is now the world’s fourth busiest airport, overtaking Denver, according to travel data provider OAG.
Atlanta – a hub for US giant Delta – remains in first place, followed by Dubai and Tokyo.
Before the pandemic hit, Heathrow was ranked seventh. But last month’s total was around 1 per cent less than pre-pandemic levels seen in October 2019. Heathrow’s busiest year ever was 2019 when 80.9m passengers travelled.
