A PLAYER has reported the distressing message they received from Xbox after their long-standing account was stolen by hackers.
The person who had their Xbox account for 15 years, has been locked out of their account following the hack.

This means that they can no longer access any of the games that they purchased over the last 15 years, and have lost all of their achievements.
Writing on the Xbox subreddit, the user reports that they contacted Xbox after they could no longer gain access to their account.
The Chinese hacker had gained access to the account and then proceeded to alter all of the user’s security information, such as the password, and email attached to the account.
The original owner of the account contacted Xbox to try and regain access to their long-standing account.

However, as the hacker had already changed all of the user’s security details, there was no way to recover the account.
Xbox was able to shut down the account and prevent the hacker from making purchases with the user’s credit card.
The email from Xbox reads: “I can confirm that there was unauthorized access to your account.
“Unfortunately, during the investigation process, we found that your security information has been changed.

“Unfortunately, when security features are updated on an account, we are unable to assist with account recovery.”
In the comments, other Xbox players spoke about the importance of two-factor authentication on people’s accounts.
Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, helps secure accounts from outsiders by requiring an extra layer of confirmation outside of a password.
This is usually a code sent to your phone or email, or the use of an authentication account from your confirmed mobile device.
You can secure your account by adding 2FA via your account’s security settings.
