MARTIN Lewis has revealed a nifty trick that can get you freebie hot drinks at a high street supermarket.

The consumer champion, 51, took to his BBC podcast to reveal what exactly was a “banana swipe”.

Lewis said: “You can get the Ikea family card which gives you free tea or filter coffee, which you normally pay a pound for.

“And everyone who is with you can get it.

“That only works on weekdays.”

He continued: “Then you’ve got the Waitrose, My Waitrose loyalty card which gives you free tea or coffee, Americano, cappuccino… from the self-service machines.

“You have to make a purchase though.”

He added: “Do what I call a ‘banana swipe’.

“A ‘banana swipe’ is where you have to make a purchase in a supermarket to get something else.

“Basically, you just buy a banana because that’s usually the cheapest supermarket item you can buy.

“So get yourself a My Waitrose card, do a banana swipe and get yourself a free tea or coffee.”

“You can get one a day and if you don’t fancy one why not give it to someone sleeping outside.”

It comes after the money saving expert revealed how to claim £205 free cash from major UK bank.

He has also shown how to do a free two-step sofa hack to slash energy bills by £100s.

Lewis recently issued a warning for anyone on minimum wage who could be owed £100s in cash.
