Three delicious treats to serve on Bonfire Night – and how to use the leftovers

Keep it simple with one, or all, of these budget ideas . . .

BANGER HOTDOGS: Spice up the evening with Tesco’s delicious toffee apple banger hot dogs recipe, which costs around £1.17 per serving.

Roast eight sausages for 30 minutes at 220C/200C fan/gas 7.

In the meantime, mix five teaspoons of honey, one teaspoon of sriracha sauce and half a red chilli, finely chopped. When the sausages have cooked for 20 minutes, glaze with the mix before returning to the oven.

Create a yummy slaw as a side by finely slicing half a red onion, one red-skinned apple and one quarter of a small red cabbage.

Chop the other half of the red chilli for a little fire and mix all the ingredients with one tablespoon of mayonnaise and two tablespoons of Greek or natural yoghurt.

Serve the bangers in hot dog rolls and stuff with some of the coleslaw.

Any leftover sausages can be chopped up and cooked in a fried rice or pasta dish the next day, suggests Tesco product development chef Jamie Robinson.

GIVE S’MORE: What could be better than chocolate fudge cake with lashings of choc sauce and gooey marshmallows on November 5?

Asda’s sharing s’more cake, £2.50, is super easy to serve and gives four helpings. You could also pop in a couple of cake sparklers – a pack of ten is £1 from Asda.

MULL IT OVER: Serve up a warming glass of mulled apple juice — or cider if you want something a little boozy.

Simmer a litre of apple juice with the peel from one orange, three cloves and a cinnamon stick. Add as much cider as desired, plus honey or brown sugar to sweeten.

Keep on a low heat for around 20 minutes then ladle into mugs.
