A RECENT big Disney release has come under fire after the company went back on its promise.

By adding a premium price tag to a product originally advertised as free, the fans have been left divided.

Disney Dreamlight Valley will no longer be free-to-play despite all the microtransactions.

Disney Dreamlight Valley was announced in April 2022, as a free-to-play game where you can roam around Disneyland-like town with classic Disney characters.

The announcement: “Disney Dreamlight Valley is an upcoming free-to-play, life-simulation adventure game that puts YOU at the center of a journey to restore a once-idyllic village now desolate and full of night thorns after a mysterious event called The Forgetting.”

It was released in early access in September 2022, but at that time it asked players to pay for the early access.

The cheapest version cost around £24, with deluxe and ultimate editions including more in-game items available for £41 and £58, respectively.

However, the expectation was that this price was for the year of early access and in-game extras.

After this time it would supposedly go free-to-play, which was pointed to by all of the freemium elements in the game.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is loaded with microtransactions, timers and limitations like the ones you expect in free-to-play games.

However, Disney recently announced that when Disney Dreamlight Valley exits early access on December 5, it will be sold at cost.

The statement reads: “As we look ahead to the official launch, with the learnings we’ve gained from early access, we’ve made the decision to remain a paid game for the foreseeable future.

“This means we will not make the transition to be a free-to-play game when we leave early access on December 5.

“This choice ensures that Disney Dreamlight Valley will be able to continue delivering on a premium game experience for all players.”

However, the majority of players do not feel that Disney Dreamlight Valley is delivering a ‘premium game experience’ due to the huge number of microtransactions.
