A few of these factors you can’t control so it’s worth having certain settings on auto-pilot.

That includes setting your router’s frequency selection.

Most Wi-Fi routers have two communication bands, which are 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

The 2.4GHz band is said to be better for reach.

That means you’ll get a stronger connection the further away you are from the router.

The 5GHz band offers much higher speeds at a lower range or distance.

Newer routers may also have a 6GHz option.

Within these frequency bands are different channels that your router will run on.

If you use the same channel as all of your neighbors, it can become congested and slow.

Some routers can pick a frequency for you so you can get faster service.

Experts at Intel explained: “So, if your router has the capability to automatically switch between frequencies, it can choose among 44 channels.

“You can check your wireless router settings to see if it is auto-switching between channels and frequencies for the optimal setting.”

Your router may already be set to do this automatically.

If not, you should access its admin page online or via a corresponding app to double-check.
