THE easiest and cheapest way to boost your internet connection is by getting your hands on a free Wi-Fi extender from your network provider.

Getting the gadget from the same company that provided your router can actually boost your internet more than a pricier alternative from elsewhere. Here’s why.

According to Microsoft, it can be helpful to buy equipment from a single manufacturer to ensure top speeds.

This means reaching out to your internet provider for any Wi-Fi boosters or extenders, as these will typically come from the same factory – instead of buying an alternative online.

“Although routers and network adapters from different manufacturers work together, they might perform better if produced by the same manufacturer,” experts at Microsoft wrote in a help blog.

“These improvements can be helpful if you’re using wireless-G devices to transmit over a long distance or live in an older house where thicker walls can block more of the signal.”

Just last month, Director of Connectivity at Virgin Media, Gareth Lister, told The Sun that folks struggling with their internet should “get a guarantee” from their network provider.

Whether you’re with Virgin Media, or another company, a Wi-Fi speed guarantee is usually afforded to each customer.

In many cases, a provider will gift you a free booster if you’re not getting the speeds that are promised in your package.

“Virgin Media’s market-leading WiFi guarantee service, Wi-Fi Max, promises speeds up to 30Mbps in every room,” Lister explained.

“If customers can’t achieve these speeds, they can claim up to three Wi-Fi pods at no extra cost.

“If the problem persists, they can claim £100 credit back.

“The guarantee is included in Gig 1 broadband and all Volt bundles, and existing customers currently on M50 to M500 Fibre packages (without Volt) can add the guarantee for £8 a month.”

Under Vodafone broadband’s guarantee, they’ll also send you up to three Wi-Fi boosters if you’re struggling with signal darkspots.

Similarly, BT internet’s guarantee includes two free Wi-Fi extending disks to tackle weak connection, or £100 back.
