ONE of Britain’s most-loved budget supermarkets is set to open TWO new stores.

Lidl branches will throw open their doors in Staffordshire and Northumberland.

Planning permission was granted to build a new store in Weston Coyney, Stoke-on-Trent, this week.

This was despite objections from rivals Tesco and Co-Op.

The new store will create 40 new jobs.

And a second branch of the German grocery titan is set to open in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

An opening date for Tweedbank Retail Park store is yet to be confirmed.

Berwick Chamber of Trade and Commerce chairperson Stephen Scott said the proposed opening of Lidl “is welcome”.

Lidl has 906 stores across the UK and first landed on our shores in 1994.

It comes as latest research from Which? found both Aldi and Lidl outperformed Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco in 2023.
