WEB surfers have been told not to avoid updating their devices, as it could be slowing their internet down.
Wi-Fi works at it best – and fastest – when operating with devices that are running the latest software, according to experts.
Having up-to-date software on your devices, be it a smartphone, PC or gaming console, means they can better ‘talk’ with your Wi-Fi router.
“Make sure that your devices are running the latest software/firmware,” experts at YugaTech advised.
“Outdated software and drivers can prevent your devices from connecting to the internet at their optimal speeds.”

While this is an often overlooked task, updating your router firmware can help improve connectivity.
It can also keep your router secure from hackers.
It is always recommended to install the latest available updates to keep your network safe and efficient.
Most routers have a built-in update checker, which may perform the entire process automatically.

How to update an iPhone
- Plug your iPhone into a power socket, and connect to a Wi-Fi network
- Tap Settings > General > Software Update
- Tap Download and Install
- Tap Download and Install to update immediately, or plug you phone in overnight to update automatically while you’re asleep.
- You may have to enter your passcode.

- Open your phone’s Settings app.
- Near the bottom, tap System > System update.
- You’ll see your update status, if there is an update ready, press Install.
